Privacy policy

1. Data controller

OwnAutoCare is an application developed by Ruben Alvarez Gonzalez. We do not operate our own servers and do not store user data on any infrastructure of our own.

The information, calculations and reminders generated by OwnAutoCare are for informational and personal organisation purposes only. They do not constitute technical, legal, mechanical or any other form of professional advice and must not be treated as such.

2. What data is processed

OwnAutoCare only stores the data you enter into the application:

• Vehicle information (make, model, year, plate, VIN)
• Service and maintenance history
• Associated costs (labour, parts)
• Attached invoices and photos
• Vehicle insurance data (insurer, policy dates, coverage type) if voluntarily entered
• Reminder preferences and notification settings (stored locally on the device or in your storage account)

No data is sent to OwnAutoCare's own servers.

3. Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in the personal storage service you choose when you sign in:

• Google Drive (available on iOS, iPadOS, macOS and Android): OwnAutoCare creates a folder in your Drive where it saves all information.
• iCloud (available on iOS and macOS): OwnAutoCare stores your data in your personal iCloud account via CloudKit.

We do not have access to your data and do not store it on any server of our own.

4. Third-party access

No third party has access to your data. We do not share, sell or transfer your information to anyone. The only external services used are:

• Google Drive API: To store and retrieve your data from your personal Google Drive account (only if using Google Sign-In).
• Google Sign-In: For authentication. We only access your name and email to identify you.
• Apple Sign-In and iCloud (CloudKit): For authentication and storage on iOS and macOS. We only access your name and email to identify you, and your iCloud to store your vehicle data.

These third-party services have their own privacy policies subject to their respective terms.

5. Local notifications

OwnAutoCare may schedule local notifications on the user's device as maintenance reminders. For data protection purposes, the following applies:

• Notifications are generated and executed exclusively on the user's device. No personal data or vehicle data is transmitted to external servers to schedule, generate or deliver them.
• The data used to calculate reminders (maintenance dates, mileage, policy dates) is read directly from the user's personal storage (Google Drive or iCloud) and processed on the device itself without transmission to third parties.
• OwnAutoCare does not store notification histories or delivery logs on any server. Once delivered or dismissed, a notification leaves no trace outside the user's device.
• To receive notifications, the user must grant permission to the operating system. This permission can be revoked at any time from device settings without affecting any other application functionality.

OwnAutoCare cannot guarantee the timely delivery or effective receipt of notifications. See clause 6 of the Terms of Use for a full description of applicable limitations.

6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

To the extent that Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) applies, the processing of the user's personal data is based on the following legal grounds:

• Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): processing is necessary to provide the service requested by the user (vehicle history management, reminder generation).
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): for the proper functioning of the application's features, always within the limits set by applicable data protection law.

Since user data is stored in the user's own personal storage service (Google Drive or iCloud) and OwnAutoCare does not access or process that data on its own servers, the developer acts as a limited data processor restricted to read and write operations on the user's personal storage, with the user themselves being the controller of their own data.

7. Analytics and tracking

OwnAutoCare does not use any analytics or tracking tools. We do not collect usage data, we do not use third-party cookies or tracking technologies, and we do not build user profiles or share behavioural information with third parties.

8. Your rights

Since your data is in your own Google Drive or iCloud, you have full control over it. You can:

• Access your data at any time from Google Drive or iCloud
• Modify or delete any data from the app or directly in your storage service
• Export your full history as a ZIP file
• Uninstall the app without losing your data (it stays in your Drive or iCloud)

Under the GDPR you may exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and data portability by contacting us at hello@ownautocare.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority in your country of residence.

9. Data deletion

To delete all your data, remove the OwnAutoCare folder from Google Drive or delete OwnAutoCare data from iCloud via your device settings (Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Storage). When you uninstall the application, no data remains on our side since we never store anything on our own servers.
